Thai Silk Scarves

Picture
The multi-hued scarves are hand sewn from scraps of traditionally patterned, handwoven Thai mud-mee silk from Northeastern Thailand. Mud-mee silk threads are tied & pattern dyed before weaving, similar to Indonesian Ikat. The single color scarves are hand-woven Thai silk. There are two type of solid scarves, one from the finer threads which exhibit the traditional sheen of Thai silk, the second from the outer cocoon threads which is a coarser weave without the sheen.

Villagers only work on these scarves when they are not farming, so production is limited. Purchase of these scarves creates supplemental income for Thai farmers. This money helps keep families intact in the villages.as it reduces the need for parents to migrate to the cities to earn a living.

Each scarf is $25.99 USD including shipping. As each scarf is a unique piece, please write me with your color choices so that I can photograph or scan a selection for you to choose from. Please visit the Gallery for an idea of the color range that is available.
